Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO I) is the engine that powers our cloud services. As a CO I Director of Business Operations on the U.S. Government Datacenter Operations team, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's dedicated online services supporting the U.S. Government.

While our U.S. Government dedicated datacenter operations team has a sharp focus on serving our U.S. Government customers and helping them achieve federal missions, together, all of Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO I) infrastructure is comprised of a large global portfolio of more than 100 datacenters and 1 million servers. Our foundation is built upon and managed by a team of subject matter experts working to support services for more than 1 billion customers and 20 million businesses in over 90 countries worldwide.

Be at the forefront of the action in CO I as part of our global datacenter operations team.

As the Director of Business Operations, you will work with the Senior Director of U.S. Government Datacenter Operations to drive programs, projects, and initiatives that span the practice area, as well as support business functions such as metrics and Objectives & Key Results (OKR) management and recurring business reporting. This role calls for a balance of leadership, influence skills, supportive individual contributions, and expertise in enterprise-level operations. You must be able to work well with tight deadlines and support some travel as needed.


Empower a culture of safety, security, and compliance in all aspect of datacenter activities
Provide thought leadership and subject matter expertise related to the delivery of datacenter-centric services
Lead semester planning process, driving content and alignment across teams for Greenlight reviews
Lead special strategic projects and drive measurable results to deliver business impact
Oversee the team's COGS and Capex budget, headcount and spend in partnership with finance to ensure effective budget management
Drive strategic plan; organize, and execute tasks, projects, and initiatives
Solve complex challenges between remote and on-premise support personnel
Collaborate and coordinate with multiple internal business groups to ensure the successful delivery of service levels
Evaluate cost savings opportunities and implement strategic projects to realize savings
Leverage local subject matter expert's tribal knowledge, spread adoption of best practices, and expose best practices to the onsite datacenter field teams
Establish and manage key cost, efficiency, and performance metrics
Understand datacenter business objectives: Critically review multiple plans and adjust as needed. Proactively communicate and address necessary trade-offs
Identify, create, and implement opportunities to increase agility, and contribute to workstreams to evolve processes, services, and solutions for Operations and Service Level Agreements for CO I
Coordinate closely with datacenter field operations teams and stakeholder organizations to foster alignment and partnerships for business success
Analyze production operations and initiate corrective actions to ensure operational stability
Initiate and establish quality standards for the Datacenter teams and manage those initiatives through to completion
Show structured thinking, planning, and the ability to execute by working through others, influencing without authority, and dealing with ambiguity
Communicate effectively and concisely with stakeholders, senior managers, and leaders about our programs and objectives
Gather stakeholder impressions of services and programs, integrating this feedback into decision making. Allocate and align resources to optimize the stakeholder and partner experience
Regularly scan the environment to help anticipate changes that could affect key programs and projects. Effectively change plans, goals, actions or priorities to respond to changing situations.
Oversee supplier contracts, programs, and deliverables as necessary


Basic Qualifications:

Minimum 10 years' experience in datacenter or business-related functions
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Program Management, or equivalent work experience
Prior experience working in high security environments supporting the U.S. Government

Preferred Qualifications:

At least three years’ experience with financial and contracts management
At least five years’ experience with industry program and project management skills
Enterprise-level Experience in managing large-scale and complex projects/programs
Financial Management experience and good business acumen
Strong problem-solving skills, analytical capabilities, data analysis, and attention to detail
Strong verbal and written communication and organization skills
Prior experience communicating with and presenting to U.S. Government customers
Must be able to multi-task and project manage many tasks simultaneously

Background Check Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Microsoft Cloud Screen Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Screen background check upon hire/transfer and every two years after that while in this role.

Citizenship Verification: This position requires verification of US Citizenship to meet federal government security requirements.

Security Clearance Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

Candidates must have an active US Government TS security clearance and be willing to upgrade to TS/SCI (with polygraph) or have an active TS/SCI (with polygraph). This role will require candidates to maintain the TS/SCI (with polygraph) clearance.

Clearance Verification: This position requires successful verification of the stated security clearance to meet federal government customer requirements. You will be asked to provide clearance verification information prior to an offer of employment.
