Airports are responsible for providing safe air navigation services. Airport operations deal with maintenance of equipment, providing safety management, ground operations, and controlling air traffic. Minimum qualifications for employment in airport operations jobs:
  • A bachelor’s degree in aviation management, business administration, public administration, or a related field.
  • A minimum of three years’ experience in airport operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of airport operations, maintenance, and security.

  • Procuring operations, maintenance, and security items.
  • Ensuring safe operations of the airport.
  • Observing and reviewing the day-to-day operations.
  • Interacting with the staff.
  • Communicating with air traffic control staff for coordinating the traffic flow.
  • Preparing written reports, developing and maintaining spreadsheets, databases, and other electronically based reports.
  • Communicating with customers.
  • Ensuring compliance with the regulations stated by the law and aviation industry.
Airport operations jobs are generally divided into four categories and the nature of work in each of the categories varies. These categories are listed below:

1. Airline Representation: In this case, people working in airport operations jobs are responsible for the following:
  • Maintaining ticket counters.
  • Maintaining facilities and services commonly used.
  • Communicating with agencies for catering services.
  • Ensuring passenger services like bag tags and baggage collection.
  • Training airport contact employees.
  • Ensuring that services provided are of good quality.
  • Auditing passenger fees, airport fees, and taxes.
2. Passenger services: The responsibilities of staff employed in airport operations jobs are:
  • Ensuring that all main areas like entry and exit gates and ticket counters are properly marked.
  • Provide information related to flights.
  • Providing information about boarding procedures.
  • Providing the necessary items like boarding passes to the passengers.
  • Arranging for snacks and meals in flight.
  • Making necessary announcements.
3. Ground services: Here, the responsibilities of the staff of airport operations jobs include:
  • Loading and unloading of baggage.
  • Maintaining ground support equipment.
  • Maintaining cleanliness on the airport premises.
  • Assisting in aircraft parking and fuelling.
4. Flight Operations: Responsibilities of people in such jobs include:
  • Monitoring aircrafts.
  • Checking schedules of flights.
  • Planning the flight routes.
  • Coordinating the flow of air traffic.
